AKOYA PEARL
It is a typical Japanese pearl and has been loved since ancient times to this day. It is characterised by its deep color and beautiful lustre, and its beauty captivates people all over the world.
SOUTH SEA PEARL BLACK BUTTERFLY
Black pearls are produced from a mollusc called the black-lipped pearl. Approximately 95% of black-lipped pearls produced around the world are cultured in Tahiti and are affectionately known as 'Tahitian pearls'. It has a deep color and lustre, and its mysterious shine is attractive.
BAROQUE PEARLS
Baroque pearls are deformed pearls. Their naturally occurring unique shape is oddly attractive. The term refers to the irregular shape of all pearls, including Akoya pearls.
FRESHWATER PEARL
It comes in a variety of shapes such as round, oval, drop, and button, so there are many design variations. Another feature is that the mother-of-pearl layer is well rolled. Freshwater pearls are relatively affordable compared to other pearls. In recent years, the technology for cultivating freshwater pearls has improved, making the pearls even more popular.
6 FACTORS TO DETERMINE THE VALUE OF PEARLS
1. LUSTRE
When light hits a pearl, it is reflected by the surface and by each layer inside the nacre layer.
These two types of lustre coexist as the shine of the pearl.
The thicker and more regularly arranged the nacre layer is, the stronger the shine will be.
SAYOKO JEWELS selects pearls with the most emphasis on lustre.
2. NACRE
The thickness of the nacre layer is one of the important factors that determine the value of pearls.
A certain amount of thickness of the nacre layer is required for beautiful colour, lustre, and shine.
3. COLOUR
The colour of a pearl is determined by both its substance colour (the background colour of the pearl) and its interference colour (the colour that appears due to the reflection of light).
Substance colours and interference colours influence each other, creating delicate and beautiful hues.
4. SHAPE
Generally speaking, pearls are round in shape, and those that are close to a perfect circle are considered to be of the highest quality.
However, pearls come in various shapes. Each pearl, such as baroque and semi-round, is unique.
Individuality and beauty are highly valued.
5. SIZE
The size is the diameter of the pearl.
If the size of the pearl changes, the appearance will be different.
Generally, if the quality is the same, the price is proportional to the size of the pearl.
Those around 3mm to 4mm are called 'baby pearls'. In recent years, even small pearls have become rarer and more expensive.
Pearls take many years to form and contain layers of secretions that protect the mollusc from foreign substances that invade from the outside. A pearl is believed to protect women by warding off evil spirits and acting as a symbol of safe childbirth, good health, and wealth.
